Home is in the Heart (twins)
Date: Beltaine | 10th of Bláthanna | 1722 |
Time of Day: Late morning
Weather: Sunny with a light breeze
Location: Aithne's Estate, Elk Lands
---

The morning was supposed to have been spent doing rigorous training of her own, but due to her leg giving her some grief Seren had changed her mind and instead decided to focus more on the children and see how they were coming in their own training. Though the young pair were lucky enough to be currently be growing up in a time of peace, Seren only knew one way of growing up and that was with strict education and weapons training. She was of both the Lugh and Morrigan after all, she supposed. It was in her blood, and even while there wasn't war, there were still those who would do harm to her family. And so, skill was important, knowledge was important.

And Rozenwyn and Taliesin were both quick to learn and already showing signs of being one day very skilled warriors. Granted, Seren mused, they didn't quite match herself or her mother at their age, just yet. But she had every faith that they would catch up. As it was, Rozenwyn had taken to spending a little time each day practising. Taliesin had noticed as well, and wanted to copy in his sister's footsteps... or perhaps didn't want to let her get to far ahead of him despite their albeit small age difference.

Seren currently watched the pair as they sparred with wooden training swords, offering words of advice and encouragement as she sought their strengths and weaknesses in her observation. She couldn't help but smile though as she oversaw their sparring; she was very proud of her children and loved them dearly. She was aware of what some thought of the very mixed blooded younglings, but they were wise not to say it openly in front of her. They were her pride and joy and proof of what she and their father had together, even if they tended to treat their relationship as casual or something like a teenage affair much of the time.

As though on cue, Seren was aware of the approach of two pairs of footsteps at the front of the property. Not necessarily by her own ears, but by those of one of the smaller creatures that resided in one of the trees there. Immediately, like a sense that was built into her from a young age, she knew who they belonged to and was momentarily distracted. It was Rozenwyn's voice that prodded the woman questioningly which brought her back and Seren smiled at her children.

"Again," Seren ordered, prompting both young ones to take up their sparring positions again. As they trained in the side yard, Seren was able to duck around the corner quickly while the focus of the children was on one another, and she spotted the two tall red-haired figures approaching the front of the house. With a grin, she took off at a sprint to catch them before they could get to the door, and as soon as she was close enough, the golden haired woman pounced at the one she knew to be her lover, wrapping her arms and legs around him in the knowledge that he was aware of her own approach, and grinning widely at him.

"Welcome home you," The woman said simply before pressing a tender kiss to his lips, pulling from it after a few moments to then smile at his sister, "Welcome home Abbey." Her attention was then diverted when she heard argumentative shouting from around the side of the house, where the children were, and she didn't need to see them to know what was going on. "Rozenwyn, take your foot off your brother's chest!" She called in their direction, figuring her spritely daughter had noticed the disappearance of their mother and decided to take advantage of it.

"But Mama, I defeated him-..." The young girl with her oddly coloured hair, mostly blonde but with red highlights that especially shined in the sunlight, rounded the corner with a small pout, until she also noticed the arrivals and squealed with joy, dropping her sword and making a run for where her mother was, "Da!" She was followed very quickly by Taliesan, who had poked his head of light blonde curls around the corner as well to see what the fuss was. Both children charged toward their father at full pelt, as Seren quickly moved her feet back down to the ground to save them all from falling into a pile when Rozenwyn and Taliesin pounced.

RE: Home is in the Heart (twins)
Another day, another trip, another jaunt across field and fen and road – a routine check in, nearby, on the progress of local interests, ensuring that things had progressed smoothly, as planned, that any potential competition was being slowly and surely pressed either into the service of Smiling Iron… or gotten rid of. Thankfully, there hadn’t been any hiccups, and the two were free to return home – well, to one of many places they claimed as home, but certainly the one that held the greatest numbers of their blooded kin.

It was a pleasant enough trip, and they hadn’t bothered bringing horses along for the last little ways, preferring to slowly weave their way along the paths and hills that led back – the faint breeze in the air kept Abbey and her brother comfortably cool, and both had long before unpinned and strapped their cloaks to the backs of their travelling packs.

It would be nice to see her nieces and nephews, though, and Nia, too, as well as Seren – though she wasn’t overly close to her younger sister, she was fond enough of the girl, and found a far greater connection to her nieces and nephews all the same. The thought of chasing Rhys around and ensuring he had been keeping up his training while they were away was an entertaining one, and she made a note to herself to ensure she did so…

Perhaps with Rozenwyn and Taliesin, if Aeden and Seren seemed in need of a little time alone.. ( and Tesni, too, if the girl wasn’t busy. )

It was easy enough to predict the angle of attack they would face once they were spotted, and Abbey smiles her greeting, and moves to press her hands to her brother’s back as to brace him for the impact of the children. “Good to be home, Seren. How are things?”

RE: Home is in the Heart (twins)
Aeden’s steps couldn’t help but increase in speed as he and his sister neared the Elk compound – there were many reasons, of course, for him to want to arrive faster, and he knew quite well there was no way his sister could fault him for a one, and the last half-hour of their trip was spent in companionable silence, both consumed with their own thoughts as they moved in easy sync. He’d had enough of work, for the last while, of dealing with petty problems and ensuring that the rest of their affairs were proceeding smoothly .

He glanced up at the trees at the edge of the Queen’s estate as they reached it, took in the familiar sights and smells of his childhood home, and grinned, broadly, nudging his sister out of habit and stretches his strides out to move all the faster. He knew Abbey would do the same, of course – they did near everything together, it was a given, wasn’t it?

He headed straight for the door, intent on heading inside and perhaps finding Seren and his children, and didn’t glance towards the side of the house, his goal already in mind.

“To your right.”

He paused, on the mantle, at this, throwing his twin an uncertain look, and moves to turn in response to her direction a few seconds too late, though one hand had already pushed his scabbard around to the back of his belt, and rocks onto his heels for a moment at the impact of his lover’s tackle. ”How many decades, and you still haven’t figured it out, yet, Aeden?” He grinned back, wrapping one arm around her waist and squirming his other free to try and support her weight a little, returning the kiss and bumping his forehead against hers. “Hey, you. How are the little gremlins?”

His gaze moved past, brow furrowing. “Where are the little – ” He paused, beamed. “Ah, there they are, then. Swords or Sticks?”

Abbey chuckled as Seren yelled to the little ones, and Aeden could feel her hands moving to brace him, and chuckled himself, opening his arms wide as Seren’s feet touch down – wider than they could a few minutes before, body charms coming in great help in wrapping his arms around all three.

“Ah, missed us both, then? Abbey, do you think we have any surprises for well-behaved little gremlins, today?” He glanced over his shoulder, smiled slyly.

“Well-Behaved, Yes. But I do believe I heard some discussion of foul play, brother.” Abbey murmured, smiling faintly, tone even.

“Oh… A pity, we had such pretty things, didn’t we?” Aeden forced a sigh, rested his forehead against Seren’s, pursed his lips. Winked . “I suppose your mum’ll be the only one to get her gift, won’t she, kids?”

RE: Home is in the Heart (twins)
Seren wouldn't have hidden the loving fondness in her eyes, even if she could, as Aeden greeted her while she held on tightly for the moment. She didn't need to answer his question of where the children were, it was rather obvious by the shouts that were coming from around the side of the house.

"Things are the same as usual," Seren chuckled as she answered Abbey's question, "Nia has her nose in a book, Tesni is out and about somewhere, Rhys is chasing horses, and well... the two little terrors..." Seren smiled and laughed, shaking her head a little, though nodding in the direction they'd be coming from, "Swords today. Rozenwyn's started picking up quite a bit in training, and I don't think Taliesin likes the idea of being left too far behind." She murmured as the children ran to them and proceeded to pounce into their father's awaiting arms. Seren smiled at their family being all wrapped up together, but could almost predict what was coming next.

As soon as 'surprises' were mentioned, both children lit up, clearly wanting to know what their father and Aunt Abbey had brought them from this trip. It didn't last very long though, as Abbey suddenly pointed out that perhaps they hadn't been all that well-behaved, and thus might not be deserving of such wonderful surprises. Seren hid her face against Aeden's chest for a moment as she chuckled before looking up to meet Aeden's eyes as he pressed their foreheads together.

"There wasn't any foul play! We were training," Rozenwyn argued with a pout and wide golden eyes as she looked between her father and aunt. Even Taliesin seemed to want to agree, nodding his head despite the earlier arguing between them. If there was anything that could make the children forget a dispute, it was knowing that teaming together might bring them what they want. With that, he added his own jade green wide-eyed puppy dog look to match his sister's sad kittenish expression.

"We've been really good, tell them please, Mama," Taliesin tugged lightly on Seren's shirt, though she artfully avoided looking directly at him due to the fact that even for a young boy he knew how to use expression to tug at one's heart. He was going to be a danger to girls when he was older.

"Oh... I don't knooooow," Seren pouted as she considered whether to put in a good word for the children or not, though she was subtly hiding a hint of a smile as she looked back up at their father with a raised brow, her arms still wrapped securely around the back of his neck. She gave the tiniest of nods to communicate that Rozenwyn and Taliesin had in fact been behaving a bit better than usual, but then glanced at the children with a very mildly stern expression, "How about you two pick up your swords and put them away first, and then maybe I can convince them that you've been good terrors."

"Swords today? How are they doing? Better than we were, when we were that age, or worse?" Abbey smiled, slightly, and circled around to ruffle the hair of her niece and nephew, her own red hair falling forwards in a loose wave. "Though I doubt they've been playing half as unfair as we used to, don't you think, Aeden?"

"We still don't play fair, that's not much of a question." The man grinned, jade eyes bright and amused. "Foul Play just went hand in hand with training, didn't it? Oh, but don't tell the little gremlins..." He winked down at the children, at this. "They might get ideas."

"They already have ideas," Abbey chuckled, and rested one hand on the hilt of her sword. "Well, let them loose, I've a mind to see how they've been doing before they clean up, don't you?"

"Oh yes, I'd say that would be more than pleasant, wouldn't it?" Aeden grinned wider, loosening his hold on his children, and beamed down at their expressions - not entirely immune, himself, but more than familiar with their effects, having mastered the art of such endearing pouts ages ago himself.

He grinned at Seren, stole a kiss.

"And how has our Princess been? We've missed you terribly."

RE: Home is in the Heart (twins)
"I'd say they're about as good as one would expect for their age, though Rozenwyn has more control than Taliesin," Seren watched the children fondly, "He has a bit more fire in his belly." She reached a hand down to poke her little jade-eyed golden boy in the belly, grinning as he tried to squirm away with a giggle.

"Don't you listen to these two, children. They tried to cheat, and I still beat both of them in training," The woman grinned at Aeden and Abbey with amusement before looking at the children again, "It goes to show that foul play does not always work. And that I am the best." She laughed softly and hugged herself close to Aeden while the children began to look more excited at the idea of getting surprises after all.

Once their father had let them go, both of them were off running to collect their swords so that they could show off what they'd been learning in their training before it was time to pack up and get cleaned off -- and then surprises!

Seren smiled at Aeden and stole her own kiss in return for the one he'd taken, "Not as much as I've missed the two if you, I'm sure." She remarked before taking a small breath, looking between the pair as she spoke, "Its been the usual for me. Doing my own training, then training young ones, political meetings, business meetings, taking care of a few things here while Mathair is in the Capital. I think she wants to come back out for a few days or so soon, just to relax away from everything up there. Rumour among the staff is that Da paid her a visit a few days ago as well." She raised her brows and shrugged, "I'm waiting to talk to her myself to see what went on."

"Are you watching?!" Rozenwyn's voice spoke up from where she and Taliesin were standing nearby, ready to show off for the adults. They took their starting stances as trained and waited for someone to give them the signal to begin.

"Of course we tried to cheat. You were bigger, and it was practical." Aeden stuck out his tongue, grinning down at Taliesin, and chuckled. "And of course he's got fire in his belly, he's ours, isn't he? A little fire's to be expected. Let's just hope he doesn't try to set anyone's hair on fire once he starts to learn, mnh?"

He slid his hand to rest around Seren's waist, cocking his head to Abbey. "Sounds much like our trip, now doesn't it. Work, and group politics, and making sure no one's there to stab a dagger in our backs... the usual, hmn?" He frowns, throws Abbey a glance. "Did he?"

As the children ran off, Abbey chuckled and threw a sly look at her friend. "It only failed because we didn't know proper tactics, yet... any changes to note? Business and Politics going smoothly?" Her manner turned a little more serious, jade eyes searching, and her brow furrowing.

"So your Daddy Blackbird went to visit Auntie? That is odd... if you want an escort, we'll be heading back that way, soon enough, probably, so you'd have us at your side..."

She trailed off, then smirked, pointed to the center of the children.

"Very Well. On my signal, children. Three. Two... One... Go."

An image of a sword dances between them, spinning and whirling as she counts... then vanishes as she speaks the final word.

RE: Home is in the Heart (twins)
"I may have been bigger, but there were two of you," Seren snickered lightly as she teased, and ran a hand through Taliesin's curly hair while Aeden boasted proudly about him being theirs. "I think the girls would be in a different kind of danger from the little fire imp, just as our little rose angel will have a clear advantage over the boys she will learn beside."

"I'll be better than the girls too, Mama," Rozenwyn stated matter-of-factly, not quite understanding her mother's meaning.

"Of course," Seren grinned and leaned her head on Aeden's shoulder as he slipped an arm about her wait, wrapping both of hers around him and attempting to hide the concern from showing in her expression. She stillw asn't sure what had gone in in the capital, but she'd heard enough to wonder if her parents were both alright or not. Glancing at Abbey, Seren nodded once, "Things are still reasonably smooth. The previous Tanaiste to the Taoiseach before Mathair is still causing a small stir, but more are finding it to be old and are content with the way of things right now."

"I may take up the offer of escort though. Mathair will probably end up being distracted by some business in the capital and forget to come here for a break unless I force her," The woman sighed softly, knowing her mother better than anyone. She didn't doubt that Aithne still struggled with reminders of who she was, and still technically is.

Seren pushed it to the back of her mind though as the children called for the attention of the adults and she smiled as they waited for the signal. Abbey made a small show of beginning their sparring match, before the two little ones moved quickly into step. Talisin, Seren could already see, would be suited to a large weapon. He made a habit of going for the big swings and harder hits with his upper body strength. White Rozenwyn darted in and out, her movements fast and forethought in her attacks.

It almost seemed that Taliesin would have an opening to get his sister, but it turned out to be a feint by her to lue him into a move that would give her the advantage. Within a few moves, Taliesin had lost his sword and the edge of Rozenwyn's rested beside his neck. The girl was clearly proud of herself while her brother frowned slightly.

"I did they that they are getting quite good," Seren murmured, "Though I think I might get in a greatsword master for Taliesin. He has a tendency to put more into strength, which will certainly work for him in the future with the correct training." She nodded and then spoke to the children, "Alright you two, put the swords away and then clean up and we'll see if surprises will be had." She watched them run off before then leading the twins to the door to head inside.

"So, no interesting tales from travelling? I don't have to withhold from my lover, for flirting with pretty ladies while I wasn't around?" Seren teased lightly as she squeezed her arms around Aeden, but smirked at Abbey.
