At Home Among Ironfolk [ Smiling Iron and Friends, attn: Saoirse ]
Date: Beltaine | Crann 17th | 1722 ATA
Time of Day: Late Afternoon
Weather: Mild, a little chilly.
Location: The RedBird Inn
---

It had been several days since The Twins had returned to their grandmother's Inn with a strange, filthy young lady in tow, and while business was bustling, the other members of Smiling Iron were growing curious about the girl who had come in with the eldest children of their leader. They hadn't been all too forthcoming - even giving their little sister a shove back out of their room when she tried to nose in to investigate.

It was, at length, that their Cennfine had finally drawn them aside and explained, with all due gravity, that if they didn't "bring that young lass down t' the dinner table instead of holing up and away" that they'd be in for a lashing like they'd never thought possible, which had prompted a reluctant "...very well grandmother/fine gramma" chorus.

Which led to the events of the evening, with Aedan and Abbey working to coax their charge out of the room and down the stairs to meet more of the 'family' - reassuring her that it was only those they knew, truly, that it was just the kitchen, not the bustle and busy of the main Inn.

She refused at first. Under no terms whatsoever was she leaving that closet to present herself to a bunch of curious and terrifyingly all-too-staring eyes. Saoirse shuddered at the very thought! It was absolutely ridiculous to assume that she ought to see anyone who wasn't the twins!

Which of course is why she found herself reluctantly following Aedan with Abbey marching behind her down to the kitchen with the most defeated, exasperated and sullen look about her features. There was a little smudge of dirt on her cheek and nose that made her look even more childish with that expression, much like an adolescent that was going through a stage of refusal to bathe... Though of course this wasn't the case. Saoirse simply refused to take her clothes off around anyone and since she was rarely alone and there were no rivers or streams, she hadn't bathed since coming to the city.

The pair flank her - both to keep her from darting back up the stairs, and to ensure no one in the main area bothers her, even as they lead her down the hall into the kitchen itself.

The first face she sees is familiar - the man from the market that Blair had directed her to, stopping short as the group nearly walks into him, and looking more than a little startled. His gaze seems a bit... far off, as though he's seeing more than what truly lies between him, and he takes a careful step back, blinks, owlishly, at the trio, glancing at Saoirse for a moment before his eyes flick up to the twins.

"...joining us for dinner?" He draws the words out, tone slow and careful, even as Aedan bares his teeth in a broad grin.

"That's the plan."

Saoirse skids to a halt the moment she's noticed and ducks around Aedan, actually trying to hide behind him. Though this likely attracts attention, she figures the safest place to be is with Aedan between her and who ever else is in the room. Her gaze darts around for an escape route and anything would do. A door, an open window... even a pantry to hide in would be preferable to being stared at like this. She forces herself to take a breath. The air in the room felt too dense, panic barely held back by the twin's presence.

The man paused, watched her uncertainly, then stepped back, carefully, at Abbey's glance. "Too close?"

"Too close, Ainsley. Don't worry too much about it." The woman smiles, a little lazily, then motions him back. "You're fine, Beagfiadh. This is Ainsley Ó Aed-Mór. A merchant. He works for Mother."

Aedan glanced over his shoulder, smiled reassuringly. "You're fine, everyone here's safe, even if some of them can be awfully rude..." He turned his gaze forwards again, looking past Ainsley to carefully regard a few of the familiar faces at the table. "Low turnout for the evening so far, right?"

The man paused, inclined his head, nodded, slowly. "...that's correct. Just the little wolves, so far."

The 'little wolves' in question are three grown men, seated close around the table, one with a wolf settled at his heels, head settled on one of his knees, waiting for his master to share a few scraps. Their eyes are all turned, however, to give a careful look towards the girl behind the twins. It's the middle boy who cranes his neck to try and peer around, though the one with the long hair and the wolf is watching with interest, as well. The third seems... nominally interested, but seems to be focusing more on Aedan than Saoirse.

Aedan's voice is warm. "Take your time, Beagfiadh."

She stayed behind Aedan despite their reassurances, feeling a bit childish for her fear but unwilling to step out and put herself in the path of others. She nodded sheepishly to both Aedan and Abbey to let them know that she heard there words, she just wasn't ready to look around on her own yet. She wondered if their grandmother would make her socialize with others and hoped very much that she would not.

At the mention of little wolves, she peeked around Aedan and though her gaze swept over the boys, she spotted the pet wolf first. Her eyes lit up and changed to an odd light blue and dark green mixture. She shifted uncertainly in place, uncertain but very much wanting to approach the creature and stroke it's fur. She'd had many little animal friends in the forest, they all seemed to like her for no particular reason and she'd never once been bitten, not even when she was truly a child and did things that one might consider awfully stupid with wild creatures.

Very shyly she stepped out and inched forward a little, stopping a good five feet away from the wolf to look at it's "master" and before pointing at it and offering him a questioning look. She did not bring out the paper and charcoal this time because in her foolish arguing with Abbey and Aedan, she'd left it sitting on the bed.

The twins waited, patiently, for the girl to get her bearings and be willing to step forwards, and Aedan chuckles as she spots the wolf and carefully bridges some of the distance. Good, that was promising enough - slow would probably be better, for now, and he could only hope Aeron and Milti wouldn't spring out and pounce...

Abbey turned to Ainsley, hummed under her breath. "Brought you a gift. Forgot to share, earlier." She produced a tiny little fragment of bone from a pouch, and held it out - gently settling it into the man's hand as he lights up, a bit, smiling just a little.

"Thank you, Abbey..." His eyes darted away for a moment, then back to the woman, radiating a quiet, subdued happiness. "She seems happy."

At the table, the trio were examining Saoirse with perfectly matched, feral eyes - though the eldest turned his attention back to his drink, soon enough, with a roll of his eyes, apparently deciding she's wasn't of interest. The fellow with the tousled hair elbows the third. "Dugan, I think she wants to touch your wolf."

The youngest blinks, then gives his brother a sharp kick. "No one wants to touch yours, Cor."

"I don't have a wolf, stupid."

"Not what I meant."

"Hey-"

The eldest raised his arm and managed to clock them both at once with the length of it, provoking sharp protests, followed by grumbling... All the same 'Dugan' raised his own arm, flicked his fingers towards Saoirse, and the wolf stretched, stood, and began to wander her way, yawning wide and lazy.

A green-haired woman appears from another doorway, and moves to check a kettle hanging over the stove.

Saoirse squeaked softly as the wolf began to wander towards her, immediately she scurried a little further forward... and she hugged the wolf. She murmured sweet little praises about how pretty his fur was and how strong he was, how perfect he was. She simply could not get enough of petting and cooing over that wolf. She didn't spare the brothers even a glance as she doted on their furry little friend, though she did eventually notice how close she'd allowed herself to get to them and she tensed up, her hands going still on the wolf's back for a moment. She glanced warily from one brother to the next, trembling a little. She spells out some simple letters in some grime from someone's boots on the kitchen floor.

-"I'm sorry, I should have asked."-

Her expression is very meek, as though she might run away at any moment. Of course her tension would likely make the wolf nervous, as sensitive as such creatures are to the emotions of those around them. Saoirse knew better then to get so upset around wild creatures but she was so frightened of meeting new people that she simply could not help herself.

While she doesn't pay any attention, the two younger boys certainly are busy - Corrigan chuckling and teasing into his brother's ear, leaving the boy more flustered and annoyed. There's a sharp yelp, as she looks up, and the boys freeze as she writes on the floor. Dugan leans forwards, though, to read the letters on the floor, quirking one brow. "Well he wouldn't have gone to you if I didn't tell him it was fine. Interesting to meet you, miss... Abbey and Aedan haven't been very talkative about you, or what you're doing about here..." He grins, at this, flashing his teeth in what could very well be considered a charming manner. "What's your name, anyway?"

He pauses, extends his hand towards the wolf. "That's Gourgy. I'm Dugan -" He elbows the man behind him. "This is Corrigan, and the fellow with the hood is our big brother, Fallyn."

She nods hesitently to each of their names, snuggling against the wolf's fur for comfort. Saoirse had not met or been around people her own age in a very long time, Dugan was a bit of a fascination for her. It might shock Aedan and Abbey when Saoirse very shyly smiles and blushes a little. She writes her name in the dirt the boys had trailed in after them.

-"Saoirse"-

Once it's written, she offers Dugan her hand in a very feminine manner. Could it possibly be that she's... flirting?
